FitEyes has evolved over the last thirteen years to become the largest eye pressure research and glaucoma support community in the world. We are also regarded as pioneers in the newly evolving field of self-tonometry and patient-driven research.
We boast our very devoted, highly knowledgeable and empowered members, and the resulting richness of information on our site. This information includes, but is not limited to, articles, editorial content, published research, podcasts, and more importantly, our valued community's reviews, posts, and interactions about their personal experiences.
As you browse through our site and archives, you may see that FitEyes is unlike most support groups. You may notice the absence of any mindset that favors a "misery loves company" approach. Instead, what you will find is a highly collaborative and motivated community proactively looking towards solutions and improvement.
This mindset is not a coincidence. FitEyes started as a simple blog in 2006, as a product of our visionary founder Dave, who took ownership of his diagnosis by devoting significant time and energy to studying his condition in great detail. By experimenting with (then unheard-of) self-monitoring of his eye pressure, and meticulously studying the effects of other lifestyle factors, he laid the blueprint for patient empowerment and self-analysis. By routinely sharing his experiences, learnings and amazing results via numerous blog posts over time, he has inspired numerous like-minded members. To the point where today, this growing FitEyes community of several thousands includes not only patients, but also many leading ophthalmologists, and researchers.
FitEyes has long been supported by a committed (and overworked) volunteer force which now joins the core team in tackling the day-to-day operations of the FitEyes organization. Thank goodness for these volunteers who provide hundreds of hours of time; they include lawyers, accountants, researchers, computer programmers, mailing list and teleconference moderators, doctors, alternative practitioners, and more. We hope you will support this community through donations, and buying supplements and other vision-related products in our eStore.
As you become more familiar with FitEyes, regardless whether just as an observer or someone actively engaged in self-tonometry, we hope you will utilize the resources to gain broader perspective. We will be happy to see you engage with our community, sharing your experiences and learnings with others, to allow us to collectively take ownership of and better manage our visual health - and this, we believe, will be the most empowering and healing opportunity for us all.
